The Brazilian Ghost Chilli is a fascinating and fiery chilli with a complex heritage. Here’s what makes it so unique: Â This chilli is a complex three-way hybrid, meaning it’s a cross between three different chilli varieties. Â
- Quantity of Seeds: 10 seeds per packet
- Origin: Brazil, It was created by José Renato in Brazil, hence the name, a cross between Bhut Jolokia (Ghost pepper), 7 Pot Douglah, and Trinidad Scorpion. Â
- Genus: Capsicum chinense
- Scoville Rating (SHU): Â The Brazilian Ghost Chilli is incredibly hot, with some sources claiming it reaches Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) levels comparable to the Carolina Reaper or Butch T Scorpion. This puts it well over 1,000,000 SHU, making it one of the hottest chillies in the world.
- Plant Size: Typically grows to about four feet tall.
- Pod Size: The pods can vary somewhat in shape but often resemble a cross between the Ghost Pepper and the Scorpion, sometimes with a pointed tail.
- Flavour: Fruity and Nutty, Despite the intense heat, the Brazilian Ghost Chilli is said to have a complex flavour profile with fruity and nutty notes.
